Film and Cinema

In response to interest expressed by the U3A members, the Film Group was started in 2012.
The programme for each year is planned after discussion with members, the main criteria being that films are varied, interesting, sometimes unusual; not films which are shown repeatedly on the television (even though they might be excellent and popular); not be films currently or recently on general release at the local cinemas; films the majority of the Group would find engaging (bearing in mind ‘you can’t please all of the people all of the time’ – although we do try!).

The group is open to all members of the U3A and although there are a core of regulars other drop in as and when a particular film catches their interest.
Monthly attendance varies from between 10 and 25 in number, depending on holidays and other commitments of members. The film is shown at 1.30 pm and members are requested to arrive on time as the external door may be locked when the film starts. Members attending are asked to contribute £2 towards the cost of hiring the room.
At the end of each film there is time for discussion during which tea and coffee are served for which an additional 25p contribution is requested.
