East Grinstead

European History

Our Group was founded in September 2012.
We began by discussing the origin of the concept of "Europe" and the emergence of Early Greek Civilization. The process adopted was chronological and led through: the Roman Republic and Imperial Rome; and the beginnings of Christianity, the later emperors, the decline and fall of the Empire under pressure from the barbarians, the division of the Empire into East and West, and the four legacies of the Roman Empire (Gothic Kingdoms, Islam, Byzantium, and the Christian Church).

Recent years have seen us study and discuss topics in the Early Middle Ages (300-1000 CE), High Middle Ages (1000-1300 CE), and Late Middle Ages (1300-1500).
