Twice monthly on the 1st Wednesday and the 3rd Monday, Brian Lawlor (0151 285 9149) check with Brian for details. Normally meet locally around 10:00 am but will vary depending on route, also meeting place will vary.

The Fair Weather Cycling Group has started with a small group who have enjoyed several leisurely rides with plans and ideas for more to come. There are many cycle friendly routes locally some using Merseyrail to get to other areas (you can use your Travelpass and they do not charge for your bike) . U3A members have different levels of fitness and the group has to establish the types and pace of rides to fit most needs. Initially the rides rides will cover 15 to 20 miles of easy safe ground at a gentle pace.

Rides may be changed at short notice due to weather and other factors

So far they have ridden along the coastal path from Hall Road, the Canal into Eldonian Village then onto Aigburth, 2 stretches of the Loop Line Path from Hunts Cross and from Ainsdale back to Crosby.

Shorter introductory routes just to see how you get on' plenty of traffic free or low traffic options.

It is difficult getting a consistent group because relatively few members of Crosby U3A are active cyclists and those that are have conflicting demands on their time. I makes sense to broaden the group's horizons by looking outside our U3A at other local resources. "Active Sefton" run through Sefton Council run local group rides from Southport, Ainsdale, Litherland and Waterloo. Also other local U3A's have cycling groups.

Most Thursday mornings the Active Sefton Waterloo Group meets in the Comminty Centre Great Georges Road at 10:00 am for a 2 hours gentle ride followed by a reasonably priced lunch. Their contact is Bill Cowley (07948 013618), billcowley@blueyonder.co.uk.

Ainsdale 10:00 am Friday mornings from the MeCylce Cafe by Ainsdale Station, a friendly group mainly retired, gentle rides around 15 to 20 miles. The 9:30 train from Hall Raod gets there in time. Contact Sefton Cycling 0151 934 4576, email cycling@sefton.gov.uk.

If you don't have your own bike yet Sefton Cycling can loan you one with a helmet providing you get in touch first.
