Family History

The Family History Group usually met on the last Thursday in the month in members’ houses from September through to November and then January to May.

From September 2020 our meetings will be Zoom meetings at 2:00 pm and joining instructions will be sent to group members.

Visitors will be welcome and should contact Janet for joining instructions.

Newcomers and experienced genealogists are welcome.

Our meeting take the form of an open forum with everyone getting a chance to relate their discoveries (or failures!), show newly acquired certificates or pass round printed family trees. Problems are aired and between the members of the group usually several suggestions for solving these are shared.

Members bring books they have purchased or catalogues obtained to show or detail new web sites they have located. Articles from Family History or general magazines are passed round and photocopies made if members are interested.

Newcomers are advised how to begin their family research and the nearby localities for holders of records for census, IGI, Parish and National Birth, Marriage and Death listings. Many of our members come from areas other than local, and between us we belong to several Family History societies with access to purchasing information from further afield. We also have copies of the 1881 census and National Burial index on CD Rom.
