Walk leaders still required for 2022

REGULAR PROGRAMME
When and Where
We walk on the 1st Thursday and 3rd Tuesday of each month. The starting time is 10.00am from a car park - often a pub - and we return there for lunch. Walks are circular, taking about 2½ hours and covering about 5 miles. They are planned and led by members.

In the warmer months we do some longer more adventurous walks, listed below under the title *Special*.

Shorter monthly walks for Strollers are available on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of each month, starting at 10.30am, lasting 1–1½ hours and covering 2 to 3 miles. Please see the separate Strollers group page for more details

Planning
Walk leaders volunteer to plan and lead a walk at planning meetings held in March and September or by directly contacting one of the Convenors. Note that we are still unable to hold these meetings face-to-face so walk planning is done by the Convenors and we are always looking for volunteers from within the group to plan and lead walks.

Walk Programmes
Information on future walks is kept updated on this page and it is recommended that members check here regularly as new information is added on a regular basis.

Signing Up for a Walk
Please sign up for walks in advance, either at the Monthly Meeting or contact Brian E to book a place (via the 'Click to send a message!' link at the top right of this page)

On the Walk
All members walk at their own risk.
Sometimes a group photograph is taken which could end up displayed on this webpage. If you prefer not to be in them please stand to one side.

To contact either of the Convenors please send a message by clicking on the link above and to the right.

Check this website the day before each walk for last minute changes to the published details. It could save you a wasted journey.

All start times are 10.00am unless otherwise stated.

Dates for your Diary
Thu Nov 4th Chesham Vale
Meet at The Black Horse, The Vale, Chesham HP5 3NS
Just under 5 mile walk through woods and over farm land towards the Rossway Estate. The woods have lovely names like Pancake Wood. We’ll pass the ruin of Marlin Chapel. There is a short uphill section at the beginning of the walk and downhill at the end. Lunch will need to be pre-ordered 24 hours before the walk so a menu will be distributed along with the walk confirmation email. Leader: LSh
Tue Nov 16th Bernwood Forest
Meet at Bernwood Forest (Forestry England) car park (between Oxford and Brill) at 10.00 am (SP 612117); (nearest post code is OX33 1BJ - this is for Corner Farm, the entrance of which is on the opposite side of the road and a few hundred metres distant).
A 6.5 mile walk comprising a mixture of woodland and open fields on the flat (one very short and very gentle uphill stretch). The terrain is variable: wide gravel / tarmac paths, farm tracks, open fields and narrow woodland paths; two stiles (probably okay for dogs). Walking boots advisable (much uneven ground); after rain, wellies best, as short sections of the route are susceptible to flooding.
Lunch is available at The Chandos Arms, 8 The Turnpike, East Oakley HP18 9QB (2 miles from the meeting point) - pre-ordering will be required & menu will be available & distributed approx 1 week before the walk. Leaders: PMa/GCo
Thu Dec 2nd Whipsnade
Meet at The Old Hunters Lodge Whipsnade LU6 2LN - you can park in the pub car park.
A 6 mile circular walk with a few ‘pull ups’
From the pub we head towards Whipsnade Heath and then onto and around Kensworth Quarry. From here we will pass the cafe at the Dunstable Downs Visitor Centre where there are toilets if needed. Hopefully if the weather is kind to us we will have great views. From here we walk through the Tree Cathedral and then down the road back to the pub. Leader: SEl
