History

The History Group's meetings are led by different members each time and lively discussion has usually ensued. The group chooses which topics to study and information is easily and extensively available on-line. We regularly meet in the Westwoods Centre, where we are able to make good use of the U3A's Digital Projector and DVD Player. Recent studies have included Indian and Chinese history but for our last area of study we moved nearer to home looking at the history of Modern Britain from !945 onwards, with a whole range of topics from the Birth of the National Health Service to the Development of Popular Music. Now we have moved back in time to the eighteenth century in Britain to look at the reign of George III and the wider context of the development of society - its politics, economy and culture.
