Badminton

The badminton group restarted on Friday 19th November 2021, and is held at Cogan Leisure Centre, between 10am and 12 noon.

The group is now called Over 50s Badminton and is open to everyone, not just U3A members, so we meet with people from all round the area.

Ages vary from 50 to late 70s, and we are a mixed ability group, many picking up again after not playing for decades!

We normally play doubles, and we swap courts and partners after each game. Although everyone likes to win, we play for fun the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and you soon get to know the others.

With the new group name, there are some other changes. The cost for those aged over 60 is £2.70 for a session, and places can be booked in advance.

From the Tuesday of the playing week, phone 01446 403000 or go on the Leisure Centre app to book your place and pay admission.

Over 60s must have an Expressions card – available from the Leisure Centre. Please check with them that your existing card is still valid. Unfortunately 50 to 59 year olds have to pay more.

If you are a full member of the centre, then there is no extra charge.

Most players have their own racquets, and often spares, so if you want to try us, come and see. Racquets are also available from reception.

Players should have suitable, non-marking footwear and clothes that allow free movement.
There is no commitment to play every week. You come when you feel you want a bit of exercise and friendly company.

So why not give us a try?
