The aim of the group is to study history throughout the world and each member contributes their own area of study related to a chosen topic. We then have a chance for discussion as a group - which is usually very lively and interesting.
In the past we have studied: the French Revolution, World events in 1901-1914, North America, 1490-1520 around the world, the Romans in Britain, the Baltics, the Far East - Japan, China and India in the period 1450-1550, Salt, the American Civil War, the Vikings, the East India Company and the Ottoman Empire.
The World History Group began a new topic in November 2019, which is The History of Japan 1603-1912. This is a fascinating subject and includes the huge changes that took place in Japan in the Meiji period as well as the Edo period leading up to that. We will each research and present information on Japan over the coming months.
Any new members interested in trying out this group would be most welcome.
