Jazz Appreciation Group
Convenor - Roy Thorogood
Venue - The Home of Ann Munro
Day and Time of Meeting - The 2nd Wednesday in each Month from 10.00 until Noon. (Unless otherwise stated)
Aim - To learn about the history of this American Art form and enjoy the Music played by the leading players and Bands.
Our September meeting had to have a change of venue as our host Anne had an urgent commitment, so we relocated to Keith and Brenda's home in Theydon Bois. I completed the story of Ray Antony and also I told the life story and we heard the music of Adrian Rollini who was an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and played with jazz greats such as Bix Beiderbecke and Joe Venuti, he also used 2 very interesting instruments the Goofus and Hot Fountain pen.
Next month we meet on Wednesday October 16th at Keith Ballard's home as Anne is away on holiday. Then I shall tell the life and we will look at videos and hear the music of Count Basie.
In future meetings we shall also be talking about all kinds of Jazz Music in more detail and listening to a wide variety of styles that are now available via You Tube. Members can bring along their favorites pieces of music and talk about them. I intend this to be a social as well learning group. So let's start foot tapping.
At the present time our Group is full, but if you are interested in Jazz in its various guises then I hope to start Group 2 when there is sufficient interested members.
At our meetings, there are some very happy faces when we start playing some lively Jazz.
