If you are looking for days out, doing interesting things and going to new places with exciting people.......then Local History is the answer!

We usually offer a trip each month using local transport whenever possible.

The number of people able to go on each trip is dictated by the venue but is usually about 25 so places are allocated on a first come, first served basis at the monthly meetings. We attend each monthly meeting in order to advertise and sell forthcoming trips. Places can then be booked and paid for and you will be provided with a receipt which supplies full joining details.

Please note we do not take e-mail bookings as our group is a flexible one so we do not have a set number of members. This allows people to pick and choose whatever we have on offer as they wish. Places need to be paid for at time of booking as we often have to pay or remit the fee or donation due before our tour takes place.

We book events one month in advance, ie we will book and sell the January trip at the December meeting!

You may e-mail if you have further queries by clicking the link above or we look forward to meeting you at our desk.

Best Wishes Helen and Jean.

Discover the history of Marks & Spencer
This outing is being arranged by the coach trip group on behalf of the Local History Group.

From the clothes we wear to the food we eat, the ‘Marks in Time Exhibition’ in Leeds showcases a unique collection at the M&S Company Archive.. The exhibition traces the development of high street favourite M&S from 1884 and its early days as a Penny Bazaar right up to the present day.

Our visit will include:

  • a guided tour of the exhibition. This features unique artefacts, historic garments, films and photographs from the Archive
  • an expert talk from an Archivist on ‘Dressed in time: A history of fashion at M&S’
  • a free self-service facility for tea/coffee

Please note this visit to the archive will be made in two groups - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Therefore some free time will be available to explore Leeds when not on the tour. For instance you can take a self guided heritage trail from the exhibition to Kirkgate Market, visiting sites of interest on the way. Finishing your tour at the M&S Heritage stall, close to the site of the very first Penny Bazaar.

Bookings will commence at the meeting in February at the coach trips desk - the cost is £12 per person which includes coach travel, drivers tip and parking.

Wed May 13th Liverpool John Lennon Airport
These tours have proved to be popular and as there still seems to be a demand we have arranged one last tour.

Places are limited to 24 on each tour and I already have some names from interested members. If you feel you would like to join us on this date, please either visit our desk at the next monthly meeting or email Jean using the link on this page.

If you are doing a tour, you will need to provide either passport details or driving licence details prior to the tour as the airport asks that these details be submitted ahead of the tour. The tour costs £7.50 each and we will be using the 10.58 Southport to Liverpool Train meeting on the platform at Liverpool South Parkway station.
