Wearside

Events at Wearside U3A

Monthly Meeting

Our monthly meetings are held in the Bangladeshi Centre in Tatham Street, Sunderland on the second Friday in the month from 10.00am - noon. Light refreshments are served at 10am and ample time is available for members to socialise and sign up for group activities.

We usually start with a short business meeting when members are updated on National and Local U3A news and developments. Several of the Group Coordinators also report details of forthcoming events. This is followed by a talk from an invited speaker.

Potential members are always welcome and information about our U3A is available from committee members.

Philosophy (Restarting)
Tue Dec 7th (Perhaps there is a philosophical discussion around border controls and the population explosion, for another day.)
Socrates, Plato, and Life after Death, were among the topics we tested at our initial meetings. We aired our views gently, without requiring converts.

This great start was well attended with 11 initially met at the Civic Centre café.

After March 2020, Lock Down stopped all social meetings, and the café has not reopened.

Re-starting this Group, we plan to meet at Hattie’s Coffee Shop, 33/34 Blandford Street, on Tuesday 7th December, at 2.00 p.m., & again on 4th January, 2022,

I hope to see you there, and we can exchange ideas and future discussions.

Topics may include rotating members’ own choices for Thought of the Day, Great Thinkers, and current topics to be resolved.

Starter suggestions include Abraham Lincoln, the Gettysburg Address, and All Men are Created Equal.

Please send me your own choice of topics and venues.
If Interested, Please Contact or see Doug or add your name to a list at the Monthly Meetings.
