There are currently 18 members of the group and we walk on alternate Fridays. We are a friendly and easy going group of people who like a pleasant country walk for exercise and to enjoy each other’s company.
We arrive at a designated pub at 09.45 to park and hand in our lunch menu choices before beginning our walk at 10.00. This is usually around 4-5 miles although where possible we try to offer a shorter route back to the pub for those who prefer a shorter walk. Each member of the group takes a turn at designing and leading a walk.
The walks are usually within a radius of 15 miles or so of Castle Cary (though we have been as far as Portland and Bath) and end, for those able to stay, with a convivial meal and chat at the pub. This year, we have walked at Lydford, Ashcott, Babcary, Sherborne, Pitney, Ham Hill, Heytesbury, Holton, Castle Cary, Ilchester, and Charlton Adam.
Many of the group have been members for some time but we have been delighted to welcome five new members since the U3A Open Day. We walk on the first and third Fridays of each month. Anyone interested in joining the group can contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
