Family and Social History
Family and Social History Group - Group Leader Lynne Middleton
This group started in February 2019.Please enquire if you are interested in joining. All u3a members are welcome to attend any of the social history talks.
The basic idea is for group members to research their family history, discovering who their ancestors were and to learn about British social history. For family historians we are learning about the resources which are available on the internet and elsewhere; how best to interpret the various records; and how to document our findings in a variety of ways.
Studying social history will help us build a picture of the lives of previous generations of our families or members may want to learn about this for its own sake. It is not essential to be working on your family history to attend. The group leader usually shares a slide presentation on a theme of the month at these meetings.
For those researching a family tree, there will be opportunities to gain support in using the Ancestry and Find My Past sites which are available in Hadleigh Library at no cost.
The meeting time is the third Wednesday of the month from 10.00am – 12.00 noon in the Cricket Club. Dates for Library research are arranged on an ad hoc basis.
See the monthly Newsletters for details of the programme.
