IF IT IS MONDAY, LEARN A LANGUAGE AND MEET FRIENDS.
WENN ES MONTAG IST, LERNEN EINE SPRACHE UND MIT FREUNDEN TREFFEN.
If you look again at these two paragraphs you should find very few completely alien words and, even then, you may think of something similar in English: for example “Sprache” and “speech”.
If you recognise some German, from however long ago, join us and you will be surprised how much you have actually retained. Let us stimulate your memory and introduce you to more.
We have two groups, which meet on alternating Mondays at 10.30 a.m. Our new venue from September is Padgate Community Centre, WA2 0QS.
When we started to meet together again, we used a hybrid version, so that those who felt safer could join via Zoom. We will continue with that format. Therefore, any prospective new members who wish to join that way need to contact the group leader to receive the Zoom codes (and an introduction to Zoom if necessary.)
The Tutored Group used “Living German” for a few years as a grammar base. We still refer to that text but not as a starting point. Instead we use short stories and other texts with “Living German” as a reference resource.
The Intermediate Group sessions have a range of contributions from different members with several activities within each meeting. Texts are shown on a screen and Zoom means that we can screen-share. Whenever possible, texts are emailed in advance to allow for preparation and best use of our time together.
We acknowledge our need to include more conversational German in both groups. When we talk in small groups those on Zoom form their own group.
We would be particularly pleased if anyone who speaks German, or has lived in a German-speaking country, feels able to join us. If you do not wish to join the group, but are willing to contribute your experience on one occasion in person, or via Zoom, please do get in touch.
You can choose to attend either or both groups: the Tutored to reassure and revise; the Intermediate to challenge yourself.
