Film Club

Group Leader - Alan Osborne

Hello everyone,

Warrington U3A Film club meets at ' The Gateway' (opposite the Town Hall) in the Large conference room ( Large screen and good sound system). This is usually on the first Tuesday after the monthly meeting (Please check the programme). Films will start at 10.30am. We show a wide variety of films across each season covering many genres (generally those of wide appeal and 2 hours or under in length). If time there is usually a chance to chat about the film before or after the showing. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 60 so we usually operate a 'signing up' system at each film and monthly meetings ( or contact me in advance). Although we do not charge members an admission fee there will be a £1 contribution per year to enable us to purchase new films.

(Subtitles for the hard of hearing are available on request)

Come and join us! (Bring your own popcorn)

Dates for your Diary
Tue Mar 10th Yesterday
Directed by Danny Boyle. With Himesh Patel, Lily James, Sophia Di Martino, Ellise Chappell. A struggling musician realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate timeline where they never existed.
Tue Apr 7th A United Kingdom
Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo in fine romance. It’s a tale of star-crossed lovers with the bigoted British government playing a particularly shabby and nasty House Of Capulet: a story of imperialism, bully-ism, and Westminster functionaries passing off their taboo horror of interracial marrying as a matter of realism and political expediency.
Tue May 12th Nowhere Boy
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. With Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Anne-Marie Duff, David Threlfall. A chronicle of John Lennon's first years, focused mainly in his adolescence and his relationship with his stern aunt Mimi, who raised him, and his absentee mother Julia, who re-entered his life at a crucial moment in his young life.
Tue Jun 9th The Time of Their Lives
Determined to gatecrash her ex-lover's funeral on glamorous French hideaway Ile-de-Re, former Hollywood siren Helen (Dame Joan Collins) escapes her London retirement home with the help of Priscilla (Pauline Collins), a repressed English housewife stuck in a bad marriage. Pooling their limited resources, they hit the road together by coach, ferry, car, and foot in a race to get to the funeral on time, becoming entangled in a love triangle with reclusive Italian millionaire Alberto (Franco Nero) along the way. On this unforgettable journey, they find true friendship in one another, and have the time of their lives.
