Science & Technology
We explore popular Science and Technical issues in the public domain. We do not pretend to be experts in any particular field and encourage our group members to present subjects for which they may have some personal knowledge or interest.
In January we reviewed Food Security, not just the availability of supply but issues surrounding the population’s access to sufficient safe and nutritious foods which meet the dietary needs and food preferences for a healthy life.
In February one of our expert members gave a ‘Master Class’ introduction to Marine Insurance using the Sea Empress disaster in 1996 to explain the inside story and evaluation of liability.
In March we had a talk on the development of Donald Cambell’s Blue Bird by the Engineering geniuses Norris Bros who were based in Burgess Hill, and in April we will have a presentation on the Hubble and Webb Telescopes.
Throughout 2024 we shall continue to explore popular S & T subjects including everyday environmental issues that affect us all. We are also looking at a number of possibilities for summer visits to local venues with a technical or scientific interest. We are always able to welcome a few extra members at the Cheery Tree Centre.
