All monthly meetings are held at Fulwood Free Methodist Church
Our monthly meeting and the additional Events Programme provides a wide range of educational and social activities that should appeal to our members. From January 2018, non-members may attend two meetings of their choice e.g. monthly meeting and/or a group meeting before deciding whether or not to join us.
You will pay the normal £3.00 entry charge to cover the cost of accommodation for our Additional Events, but all regular Monthly Meetings will be £2.00 (as of April 2023).

The monthly meetings begin at 2.00 pm from September 2023, Admission to all monthly meetings is £2.00
Often we have visiting speakers or sometimes presentations put together by our own members. If you can suggest the names of good speakers we would like to hear from you.
By default all events are shown by “category” i.e. Monthly Meetings are separate from other items like Quiz’s and One-Off events like Local History Presentations.

| Thu May 16th | Speaker – Frank Vigon Title – The strange birth of British Television We welcome back a popular speaker, Frank Vigon. The talk looks at Television from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. This talk has been very successful as it has lots of clips from old programmes and is really good on nostalgia; Frank has so much knowledge on his subjects and compliments this with superb film and exceptional graphics and delivers enjoyable and interesting talks. | Thu Jun 20th | Speaker: Brian Halliwell Title - It’s a Wonderful Life Brian has given talks for over 20 years, including four times to Preston U3a previously. This latest talk is about Innovations and Inventions that have made life wonderful. A Member of Preston U3a saw the talk and recommended it. | Thu Jul 18th | Speaker: Jimmy O’Donnell Title - Lancashire Memories The generic term called “Lancashire Memories” includes The Power of Reminiscence which includes memories of life being brought up in Lancashire using a collection of objects of sensory reminiscence and memorabilia, music and singing, photos, songs, poems and stories. | Thu Sep 19th | Speaker Rob Mason Title More of “DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN!” Rob entertained us last October with a feast of anecdotes and music dating back to his upbringing in Walkden near Manchester. He had us “rocking in the aisles” so he makes a welcome return! | Thu Oct 17th | Speaker Marianne Blaauboer Title The Squire of Lytham Hall Marianne will satisfy our thirst for Local History by giving an Illustrated talk about the life of John Clifton, the colourful Squire of Lytham Hall and the building of one of the finest Georgian houses in our area. | Thu Nov 21st | Speaker Roger Browne Title “ NOT FATHER O’MALLEY!” Roger recalls his upbringing in Blackpool and in particular his Catholic education in an hilarious but always respectful way. As he reminds us he remains a devout Roman Catholic to this day. | Thu Dec 19th | Speaker Amy Hardy Title “THE LANCASHIRE NIGHTINGALE” Last Christmas Amy’s Musical Performance was very well received by members. So this Christmas she will return again with a programme concentrating more specifically on themed Christmas music and carols. | Thu Jan 16th 2025 | Speaker Paul Atherton Title “BILLY’S WAR” Paul discusses his historic novel written from his home in Walton le Dale based on his father’s experiences at the end of The Second World War and particular his time in Palestine in 1945/46 towards the end of the British mandate. | Thu Feb 20th 2025 | Speaker Susan Douglas Title “THE PIONEER WOMEN OF WINCKLEY SQUARE” Susan talks about women “firsts” in Preston including the first Headmistress of the municipal girls’ high school following the 1902 Balfour Education Act, Preston’s first woman councilor, Alderman and mayor and also the first woman solicitor in Preston. | Thu Mar 20th 2025 | Speaker Marjorie Taylor Title “A NORWEGIAN ODDYSSEY” Marjorie lived in Norway for many years and travelled extensively around the country getting to know its regions customs and traditions very well. The illustrated scenery is stunning. | Tue Apr 30th | MEMBERS COFFEE MORNING We are planning to run another of our popular Members Coffee Mornings at the end of April. A large number of Group Leaders and Committee members will be present to talk to members about the activities of their groups and the initiatives being planned by the Committee for the remainder of the year. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available and it will also be a good opportunity for members to socialise informally. This is an "All Members" event open to everyone and could be particularly informative for those members who have joined since our last such event in January 2023. Following the Coffee Morning there will be a Group Leaders Hotpot lunch in appreciation for all their efforts in running their particular groups. | Thu Jun 13th | Speaker - Colin Galbraith MODERN AMERICAN JAZZ - The famous conductor Sir Thomas Beecham once said with characteristic wit, "The British don't really like jazz, they just like the sound it makes". Colin Galbraith who gave a very well received talk last year on the music of Beethoven returns to talk about his other great love, Jazz. He'll concentrate on the Classic Period of modern jazz in America from the mid'40's to the mid '60's.
