Events

Our last monthly Speaker Meeting via Zoom took place on Thursday 19th August. Now all meetings will resume at St Cuthbert’s.
Details of the future programme are listed below.
Other events previously planned will be re-scheduled in consultation with the planned Presenters.

Our monthly meeting and the additional Events Programme provides a wide range of educational and social activities that should appeal to our members. From January 2018, non-members may attend two meetings of their choice e.g. monthly meeting and/or a group meeting before deciding whether or not to join us.

You will pay the normal £2.50 entry charge to cover the cost of accommodation for our Additional Events (non scheduled as yet), but all regular Monthly Meetings will be £1.00

Often we have visiting speakers or sometimes presentations put together by our own members. If you can suggest the names of good speakers we would like to hear from you.

Thu Oct 21st Funland in the Foam - Shirley Clarke shows a PowerPoint presentation, including lots of old photographs, illustrating the history of the development of Blackpool as a holiday resort.

Thu Nov 18th New York - This is an illustrated talk given by Norman Harris on the city which never sleeps. An avid traveller, Norman will show the many aspects of the city and its many highlights.

Thu Dec 16th Christmas Concert “A Magical, Musical Mystery Tour” - Chris Devereux will bring a number of instruments including mandolin, guitar and mando-cello to entertain us.

Thu Jan 20th 2022 Nineteen Sixties – Decade or Decadence? - An illustrated talk by Frank Vigon, the topics include the development of youth culture and pop music, the new consumer society and the change of fashion and impact of individual innovation.

Thu Feb 17th 2022 Twenty Amusing Years in Sales and Marketing. - Tim worked in sales and marketing at insurance companies and later moved up to management. He now has his own consultancy. He has been on the speaking circuit giving his first talk in 1992

Thu Mar 17th 2022 An illustrated talk on what the UK Parliament does - By Rachael Dodgson, the Senior Education officer from the Parliamentary Outreach. Rachael explains the difference between the UK Parliament and the Government, how to contact your MP, and how to get your voice heard at Parliament. This is a completely neutral body with no links to political parties or groups.

Thu May 19th 2022 Working for Auntie - Christine Green will give her illustrated talk of her experiences working for the BBC for 13 years. As a Graphic Designer she worked on various shows and has numerous sequences, story boards and art work to show.

Thu Jul 21st 2022 A Glimpse Beneath the Celebrity Chef Apron – A Talk by Caroline James, author of women’s fiction.
