Middlesbrough U3A Groups

Groups News

We currently have 10 interest groups. These are organised by the U3A members themselves and any member whose interest is not catered for is encouraged to seek to start a new group.

One Group meets entirely on Zoom and another face to face but allows members to join in via Zoom.
There is a link on the right with a timetable for groups using zoom for meetings and one to a basic information sheet on using Zoom. If you wish to start or restart a group with Zoom please check these links first.

All other groups meet face to face, although a Zoom alternative could be made available for some.

New Group
Activities are at the heart of the u3a organisation. They are run by members for members. Through the pandemic we have, sadly, lost members and activities. We are attempting to encourage more activities to be available to members.
If you have an interest, knowledge or skill that you would be prepared to share with other members please let us know. Or, if you would just like to get together with others from time to time enjoying a mutual interest in something, also let us know.
If enough members show interest (and it doesn’t need to be many for an activity) then we will help to get it underway. Full assistance will be available from the Group Coordinator, the committee and other experienced group leaders.

For further details of current groups, click/tap on the group name link in the Groups List below

The Third Age Trust has published advice on restarting groups. There is a link on the right to their document

With the Coronavirus pandemic, we have had to cancel group activities so all individual group pages are out of date. Some group leaders have decided not to carry on so these groups will need new group leaders. The groups concerned are:

  • Armchair Travellers
  • Making Greetings Cards
  • Soup and Pudding Club
  • Tenpin Bowling
  • Photography

If anyone is interested in taking on any of these groups, please get in touch with us via the contacts page. Meanwhile we will try to get groups information updated and will keep let you know when/if groups are restarting.

There are three key considerations when restarting a group

  • The Location of the group
  • The Nature of the activity
  • Personal risk assessment for taking part.

These are all addressed in the linked document with internal links to the government website for more detailed advice.

Scroll down for a list of groups in the Middlesbrough U3A. For more information on individual groups, click or tap on the name of the group and a page with details about the group will open.

If you are interested in a group, contact contact us using the main contacts page and we will pass your message on.

You can go along and try a group for up to 3 meetings, but if you wish to take part in any group regularly, you will need to join Middlesbrough U3A.

Group Leaders If you make changes to your group, please let me know. You can download a groups information form and send that to me or if the changes are relatively small, send me a message via the message link on the right.
