Medieval Europe

We are interested in European history, including Northern and Eastern Europe as far as Muscovy and the Ottoman empire. Our current focus is on social and economic life in Europe in the Middle Ages.

Our programme each year is discussed and decided in the group. We read chapters of a book in our own time and discuss them when the group meets. Reading material might be a general text, biography, study of an individual place or movement, or original sources where accessible. Buying or borrowing the book is optional.

Our friendly informal group meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except August and December) at 2.15 pm in Colchester.
