Events

EVENTS run for members include coach trips and social outings. Our trips and outings are open to all members with charges depending on costs.

SPEAKER MEETINGS are usually held monthly on the LAST MONDAY of the month at Exning Road Club starting at 2.30pm and are available for all members, and prospective members.
Please look out for date changes when there is a bank holiday in the month.

Our speakers at the monthly meetings are carefully chosen to provide interesting and stimulating talks on a wide variety of interests and topics. We welcome any feedback on the speaker or the meeting in general. After the formal presentation there is always the opportunity to talk to the speaker individually and to chat with other members over a cup of tea or coffee.

We are a member of the U3A East of England Region who hold events and run projects - details to be found in their latest newsletter here: East of England Region News Bulletin

There are also Third Age Trust National Events, including quizzes, challenges, and projects. For more information click NATIONAL EVENTS, only open to u3a members.

Dates for your Diary
Meetings
Mon Apr 29th The Mulberry Harbour Project
An idea of pure genius. Here will be told the story of a tiny harbour in North Wales leading to one of the most audacious seaborne operations the world has ever seen.
You will hear about coincidence, chance and sheer luck. In two months time it will be the eightieth and probably last meaningful anniversary of those of us who were alive in 1944.
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE FOR THIS MEETING ONLY TO THE RACING CENTRE

(Sorry - change of plan - here is an updated speaker for today.)
Mon May 20th Adam Bleese - Above the Law
Adrian worked for years as a civilian operator of cameras on board Suffolk Police Helicopters. His talk covers his career and how the force has changed, not necessarily for the better. He sets out how he fell into this unusual line of work and gives plenty of anecdotes about his time up in the air.
Mon Jun 24th Joanna Hudson - the last climbing boy
Graham Brewster was an 11-year-old climbing boy whose death up a chimney in 1875 when working at a mental asylum in Cambridgeshire was the catalyst for a change in the child labour laws that changed the lives of children across the land.
This talk is about her journey finding out about George and shock that his story is largely unknown. She will take us back to industrial Britain when child labour was the backbone of the industrial age. She'll take us through her journey and how George's story unfolded before her eyes. There's more to her project to get his name known and you'll be amazed at what she has uncovered and what may be discovered in the future.
