Geology
Welcome to the Geology group which has been running since 2012. We meet on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. The second Friday is Speakers Day, alternating between one of our own members and external Professional Geologists. Our members have a varied background, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Medical and lots more, this provides a varied insight into the Earth and our environment. The fourth Friday is hands on day examining rocks and fossils, using microscopes, testing rocks and minerals for hardness and other properties. We are also active with field trips to Cornwall and Somerset and are fortunate to live on the North Coast of Devon with its outstanding geological features, many of which are easily accessible. The links established with other local Earth Science groups also extend to interaction with groups on the Devon and Dorset Jurassic Coast, holding joint field trips and exchanging speakers. We welcome new members to the group and remember you only need an enquiring mind to enjoy the wonders of the Earth.
