The aim of the ‘Considering Art Group’ sessions is to project an appreciation of art and artists covering the key periods in history: Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism, pre- Raphaelite ….. to name but a few, not forgetting living artists/modern art.
This broad spectrum of art history covered in the Group sessions seeks to inform, acquaint, discuss and question the work and lives of the artists and importantly the critics who influenced their work. An absorbing and compelling subject that cannot fail to captivate the enquiring mind of all facets of art and the links with society.
The format of each session follows a basic pattern of; introduction, video presentation followed by discussion. As a supplement to this format for added interest, group members are encouraged to give a short talk of their experience of any major art exhibition they may have visited e.g. The RA, Tate, National Gallery, Portrait Gallery (this part is not compulsory).
Video source material: As a group we own a number of DVDs and procure new material as required, these are retained by the group. U3A Resources Library also loan out DVDs that are available to the group.
