ANNUAL PROGRAMME 2023 - 2024

The u3a year 2023 - 2024 starts in September 2023 and our Annual programme is now available online at Annual Programme 2023 - 2024.

ODIHAM DISTRICT U3A'S HISTORY

Odiham District u3a was launched in September 2010 as a result of the enthusiasm of members from Odiham, Hook and the surrounding villages to pursue new interests together, make new friends and to enjoy learning at their own pace.

This works as a learning and leisure co-operative to share interests, knowledge and skills: whether none at all or extensive. In other words there are no formal qualifications needed to join - just an open mind!

Odiham District u3a now has nearly 700 members, from Odiham, Hook and the surround villages who are no longer in full time employment.

We are part of the International u3a movement founded in France in 1972. In 1982 it started in the UK under three founding fathers who shared a common vision: one where older people had access to education by controlling it themselves. There is neither a lower nor an upper age limit and no qualifications are required or given. What makes u3a unique is the fact that everything is done by its members.

LEARN, LAUGH, LIVE

Activity Groups are the core part of the ethos of a u3a and one of the priorities is to ensure a wide range of successful groups available for members. The success of our groups is the direct result of the inspiration, leadership and efforts of our group leaders.

The style of meeting is informal and friendly in varying sizes of groups. Some members lead groups, some share tasks - it is up to each individual how committed and involved he or she becomes.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

There is a Monthly Meeting for all members in the 16th century Cross Barn in Odiham on the first Wednesday of every month.

It features a programme of lively and interesting speakers as well as announcements of future events and group news. The meeting starts with a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits, and enables members to engage in relaxed conversation and exchange of ideas before a talk on anything from beekeeping to climbing Everest.

You can get more information by clicking on the links to the schedule of our Monthly Meetings and Newsletters
