Forthcoming Events

All our forthcoming events, whether they are the next in a regular programme or a one-off event, are listed in the Dates for Your Diary section further down this page.

COVID and INFLUENZA

The principle of ‘self-responsibility’ will apply to monthly meetings and TED Talks. Individual members with high vulnerability or risk-aversion should opt out of events according to their own judgement. Members with any covid-like or influenza symptoms should not attend these meetings.

Monthly Meetings/Talks

On the first Thursday afternoon of every month, except August, we have a meeting with a Speaker, who gives a 50-60 minute talk on an interesting topic, followed by Questions and Answers. The Topics are extremely diverse, such that over time an eclectic range of subjects to suit everyone is covered. These meetings are held in the Gates Hall at the Lymington Centre. Tea is served in the café afterwards. You do not need to book to attend these meetings, which are open to all members. (Non members may attend twice - £2 per visit)

TED Talks

A short (approximately 20-minute) 'TED TALK' video on a thought-provoking theme is shown, followed by informal discussions in small groups. The concept originated in the USA, where the talks initially focused on Technology, Entertainment and Design – hence the name “TED Talks” – but they now cover a huge range of diverse topics, from science to business to global issues. TED Talks are held on the third Monday of every month (except public holidays) from 10.00 to 11.30am in the Lymington Centre Gates Hall. You do not need to book to attend these meetings, which are open to all members. (Non members may attend twice - £2 per visit)
