Petanque
The petanque group meets every Tuesday afternoon at the terrain located in Maldon Promenade Park just before the Rossi ice cream hut on the main footpath leading from the main gate in Mill Road towards the amusement area.
Play starts at 1.30 pm in the winter (GMT) or 2 pm in the summer (BST), there is no charge for playing on the terrain.
The group welcomes any members that wish to play or give the game a try. We have added a couple of pictures showing Cluster group members joining in the fun on 24 Oct '23 .
If you wish to give it a try but don't have a set of balls please contact the group co-ordinator who will try to organise the loan of a set of balls. Petanque is played as triples which requires two balls per player or doubles or singles both of which require three balls. It is normal for a player to have a set of three balls available.
In the past teams have been fielded in the Essex Invitation Winter and Summer Leagues playing a mnicture of pub, club and other U3A teams but we have been unable to find sufficient members to form a team at present.
Members from the local U3A Cluster Groups are always welcome and a number attend each week.
