Pre / Ancient History
Group contact: Ken Davies
The group is essentially study-based and encompasses pre- and ancient history up to the classical world and early middle ages. Currently there are six members and there is room for a few more. It usually meets on the second Friday afternoon of the month at members’ houses.
Themes are led by members of the Group and in 2019, we have included the origins of ‘civilised’ states, development of metal work in the ancient world, the development of writing systems, a brief history of time, evolution of language, early African cultural artifacts, Irish pre-history, evolution of water transport, Sri Lankan early history, Sicilian early history, food and it’s processing and aspects of classical Greece. I am sure I have forgotten something, but there is plenty left to discuss.
Our meetings lead to enthusiastic discussions and as it is about pre- and early history, there are often contentious areas and so lots of scope for our imaginations!
