Penicuik & District

History

Group contact: Alison MacDonald
Deputy: Mary Darling

Early in the year History Group members volunteered to research the history of some of our
local castles. Information on twelve castles was presented to the rest of the group. An
exhibition was then created with summaries of each castle’s history. This has been
displayed twice in Penicuik Town Hall.
The group made some interesting visits to Preston Grange Industrial Museum, the
National Library of Scotland, St Triduana’s Chapel and St Cecelia’s Music Museum. We also
went on a Victorian Poverty Walk and had an interesting talk from Richard Phillips on WW2 German spies.
Group meetings continue to be well attended and usually take place on the second Monday of the month at 2pm in James the Less Church Hall.
