This is a new Group, which started in March 2019.
It meets on the third Wednesday of each month, at 10am, and meetings are currently being held online on the Zoom App. Members will be sent a link in the week before the meeting, and if anyone else wishes to join or needs help please contact the group convenor David Grimes.
(In normal times they meet in the community room of the Clitheroe Fire Station.)
A wide range of Science related topics will form the basis of presentations mainly by members.
"Enlightenment" refers not only to our own increasing understanding, but to the rapidly burgeoning understanding of science through the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries.
As well as increasing our understanding of scientific topics, there will be plenty of time and space for discussion as well. We always have a space for “Science of the Month” to discuss recent developments as released in the press.
No scientific background is necessary - just curiosity and an interested mind!
Recent topics have been:
Atomic physics in Ancient Greece
The 19th century epidemics of cholera
Absolute & proportionate change - is this fraud?
Asteroids and possible future impact
Efficiency of jet engines
Healthy life expectancy - male and female
The science of Al-Hasen 965-1040 CE
Circadian rhythms and body defence mechanisms
The nature of epidemics
