Interest Groups Online Summer School
Perhaps unusually for a group that meets on zoom, Countdown to COP has held a 4-day in person Summer School at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. 30 u3a members from across the UK enjoyed a packed programme which covered issues ranging from how to save energy in your house to how to rate your council’s climate plan and from how Britain can reach net zero to a chance to find out about and even sit in electric vehicles.
A visit to a wind farm at the top of a Welsh hill farm showed how the sheep grazed right up to the turbines, which were surprisingly quiet and beautiful.
Members had the chance to share books and magazines which they have found useful. A list is given, see link on the right. Several members run their own climate group in their local u3a so lots of ideas and tips were shared. We also collected ideas for actions people can take and grouped them into a matrix showing what you could do with different degrees of wealth and time!
We left inspired by the amazing location and by each other. It was a special opportunity to meet the people we see each month online and to make friendships.
