a) Getting Started

A summary of good practice adapted from the handbook is listed below:

1. Contact Groups’ Co-ordinator

2. Meet with prospective group members to:

  • Define the aims of the group
  • Agree structure of the meetings
  • Agree date and venue
  • Agree scope - see Case Studies

3. Conduct risk assessment on venue(s)

4. Contact the Treasurer for advice on the relevant bookkeeping method, if a group is collecting £2 or more per member per session.

5. Contact the Treasurer to approve the hire of a venue if appropriate

6. Become familiar with accident and incident reporting

7. Set up a log book or folder to hold

  • Statement of the group’s aims
  • Contacts
  • Registers
  • Completed risk assessment and incident forms
  • Completed legitimate interest assessment form
  • Venue, timing, cost
