Church Stretton

Classical Music

The Classical Music Group, within Church Stretton U3A, meets twice a month (2nd and 4th Thursday Afternoons).

The group currently consists of 9 members who take turns to host meetings and choose their selection of music for us to hear.

The music is played on CD's from the host's collection, using their own hi-fi equipment, and they are free to choose what to play. This is normally selected from the “standard classical repertoire”, a mixture of symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and sometimes opera, lieder etc.

There is no need to be able to read music, no one is expected to play an instrument.

The host normally introduces each piece, and tells us something about it – either quoting from an article on the internet, or perhaps the notes in the CD case.

The meeting is scheduled to last 90 minutes.

It is understood that not everyone is able to host for practical reasons.

No knowledge is necessary, the emphasis is on enjoying the music! We have room for 1 or 2 newcomers. If more interest is shown, I am happy to get a second Group off the ground.
