Welcome to Chorley U3A
Chorley U3A is a member of the Third Age Trust - The University of the Third Age. The 'Third Age' begins when we have finished full time employment and are free to choose what we do with our time.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a self-help voluntary organisation of retired and semi-retired people meeting to take part in learning, leisure and physical activities which are organised by our members and include talks, trips, walking, gardening, yoga etc. Our present membership is over 400 and new members are most welcome - come & join us!
PLEASE NOTE: If you feel that attending our general meetings and /or group activities would be difficult for you, due to a particular need, for example, mobility/sight or hearing difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us, via our contact page on the website & a member of our welfare team will get in touch to discuss if we may be able to help you participate in any of our activities that interest you.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Our General Meetings take place on the fourth Monday of the month at St George's Church Hall, Chorley, starting at 1.30pm. Usually we have an outside speaker, though sometimes the meeting is taken by our own members.
The format is usually news, speaker and then informal chat over a cup of tea or coffee. Click on EVENTS for this year's programme.
Coming to the monthly General Meeting is the best way to find out what is going on in our u3a. We issue a quarterly Newsletter, available on our website and sent to all members, with details of what is going on in Chorley u3a over the following few months.
Most people enjoy the special interest groups. These meet once or twice a month and members are free to join as many or as few as they wish. We meet in St George's Parish Hall in the middle of Chorley for our monthly meetings but groups use a variety of venues. To find out more click on the GROUPS and EVENTS links at the top of the page.
WHO CAN BE MEMBERS?
Anyone who is retired or semi-retired. There are no age or geographic limits. We draw members mainly from the Chorley area but some are from further afield such as Horwich, Leyland and the boundaries of Preston. Some members hold dual membership. We share cars if we are travelling away or we use coaches for long distances so having no car is not prohibitive.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The annual subscription for 2022 is £10.00, or £5 if you are a full member of another u3a. Individual groups may make a small charge to cover running costs such as room hire and equipment. Click on top right link for a membership form.
