Chorley

Long Walks

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

The Long Walks Group meets each week on a Wednesday the walks range from 7 to 8.5 miles. The walks normally take place within in an hour's drive from Chorley and we normally plan to leave the town at or just after 9.00am to avoid the busy time on the roads. We encourage shared driving to help keep the costs down, ease of parking at the start of the walk and of course help with environmental issues.

On occasion we may decide to walk a little further but this will be announced in the walk details. This gives us the opportunity of taking in the particular features of an area or make good use of the distance travelled.
Trough of Bowland, Rossendale, Yorkshire Dales and of course on our own doorstep the beautiful West Pennine Moors are just some of the places where we walk. See below for the walk program.

We often share leading the walks so we get plenty of variety, but this is by no means expected of anyone. We are a friendly group of like minded people that's interested in walking and the outdoors and would welcome news members to join the group so long as they are up to the challenge of country walking as described here.
Walks organised by U3A groups automatically have public liability insurance cover, provided the walkers are U3A members. However this is not a personal accident insurance and all members must be aware that they walk at their own risk.

Note: The Ramblers Association has a guidance document available regarding equipment you should carry in your rucksack, this can be found on their website. search - rambers.org kit list.
