Chinnor & District

Gardening

Chinnor U3A Gardening Group now has 120 members. We are active throughout the year, and meet on the third Wednesday of the month. Like most gardening activities, we have two distinct seasons.

SUMMER
During the summer months, April to October, we organise visits to various gardens within driving distance. Most of these gardens cannot take large numbers of visitors, and so the group is divided into two halves, Morning and Afternoon, visiting the same garden on the same day. Morning group is from 10.30 until 12.00 and the afternoon group from 14.30 and 16.00. Payment for these visits is made on the day, on arrival at the venue.

We also organise two or three coach visits, which are always very popular and are booked on a first come, first serve basis. Coaches are usually 51 seaters and places are taken up very quickly.

WINTER
During the winter months, from November to March, we meet on the third Wednesday of the month in the Chinnor Scout Hut. We have a speaker at each of these meetings and they are chosen for their particular gardening experience and knowledge. Doors open at 10.00 for coffee and tea and the talk starts at around 10.30. The cost of these meetings is covered by the annual subscription.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
There is an annual subscription, payable in March which covers the cost of the Winter meetings, speakers and any additional expenses incurred.

VISITS
These are paid for on the day unless it is a coach trip when prepayment is required on booking.

COVID19 SPECIAL MEASURES
Under current Government regulations, Winter meetings are not permitted and so it is intended to hold ZOOM meetings with specialist speakers available to all gardening group members. The first of these meetings is taking place on Wednesday 18th November 2020 at 10.00 a.m.

2021 Summer visits are booked but can only take place once current restrictions are lifted.
