Walking groups Information

The Strollers
Walk fortnightly on a Saturday at 10:20, take gentle strolls at a very leisurely pace with, usually, a pub lunch afterwards. If the weather is unfavourable, then they adjourn to a local garden centre for coffee.

Walking Group A
Walk on alternate Mondays at 10:20. We have about ?? people who walk on a regular basis, but this can fluctuate from 8 to 25 people! Our walks rarely go beyond 4 miles which is proving popular with those who just enjoy a morning hike; plus the venues are not too far away. We have a coffee break about half way round, giving us a breather and a chance for a 'chinwag'. Walk leaders arrange for a pub lunch on completion of the walk but this is entirely optional. We encourage those who have walked with us regularly to eventually lead a walk, however this is not compulsory. Both the co-ordinators are willing to try any walk out with you before you do it with the group.

Walking Group M
Walk on alternate Mondays at 10:20. Distance and difficulty similar to Group A.

Walking Group B
Walk on Thursdays at 10:00, alternate between short walks of up to 6½ miles with a coffee stop en route (bring your own) and an optional pub lunch afterwards, and longer walks of 7 to 9 miles where a packed lunch is taken. These walks are slightly more challenging and some involve ascent of over 1000 feet.

Walking Group D

We walk every Tuesday morning in the Chesterfield area or farther afield into Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire. Walks are between 5 and 7 miles and are graded easy, medium and harder. Further details of these categories appear in the newsletter along with details of each walk and starting points. We meet at 9:50 for a prompt 10:00 start and we always have a coffee and packed lunch stop. (Because of Covid restrictions we are not currently going to cafes or pubs for lunch at the end of any walks). All u3a members are welcome to join us on any of our walks. There is no need to book, just turn up and we will be pleased to see you. We are currently trying not to share cars, also because of Covid regulations.

Dog Walking

'Dog-friendly' countryside walks of approx. 6 miles, (3-4 hours duration). Each walk is tested to provide ample time 'off-lead', avoid livestock & difficult stiles where possible, and ensure that it's not too strenuous for the canines' companions. Usually meet 09.45 for 10.00 start every fortnight on Wednesdays. Optional pub lunch or occasionally packed lunch 'en route'. Non-dog owners welcome.

In addition to these 6 groups, both Bird & Field and the Wild Flower groups provide some short country walking outings.
