Social History Group 1
The group started in October 2011. We're planning a programme that is a mix of talks by members of the group, outside speakers and visits. Topics include "Working class houses in Victorian times", "Immigration in 19th century Chesterfield", "The Pentrich rebellion", "19th century crime", and "An Elizabethan ladies' wardrobe revealed". Visits planned include Chesterfield Ragged School, Bakewell Old House Museum, Kelham Island Museum and The Workhouse, Southwell.
Social History Group 2
A new group starting in January 2022. The group will meet monthly in Loundsley Green Community Centre 11am to 1pm. We will look at history from the point of view and experiences of the common and and woman. For example 'How did the life-changing early events in history affect them?' 'How can we see the effects from available accounts and
documents of those days?’ The group is not intended to be scholastic but rather 'a walk in someone's historic shoes’.
The initial 'taster' meeting is on 10th January, 11 am–1 pm, so come along and join in.
