Press Release – for immediate release
Chester U3A – Learn, laugh, live!
Chester U3A was founded more than 25 years ago in 1993. It is part of a much bigger movement, nationally and internationally, whose aim is to encourage people in their third age to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning in subjects of interest to them. There are no entry requirements and no qualifications are given – all who are no longer in full time employment are welcome. It is all about keeping mind and body active in later life – while having fun.
U3A is the only UK educational organisation that is entirely run by the members for the members and so Chester U3A is a totally volunteer organisation. There are approximately 1100 members who may join one or more of the 90+ Learning/Interest groups of their choice. Subjects range from Art through History, Raquetball and Singing, to Walking and if no suitable group is available then members may start a new group to further their learning. Members may also enjoy attending the informative monthly talks as well as visits to interesting places or theatre and concert trips.
How can you find out more? Well one way would be to attend one of their new-initiative Monday morning drop in sessions at Storyhouse where all current members are invited to join some of the group’s committee to chat about anything that takes their fancy. Prospective new members are welcome to come along and find out more about the U3A movement and to consider whether this group might be for them.
The initial meetings are planned for Monday 3rd June and Monday 1st July from10.30am –12.30pm. ‘Coffee Time at Storyhouse’ is an opportunity to meet other members, bring your friends along to discover ‘U3A’, find out more about the Interest Groups and ask as many questions as you can think of. Purchase your drinks at The Kitchen, Storyhouse and sit down for a chat.
