Birdwatching 1 Ellesmere trip

1st April trip to Ellesmere & Wood Lane Nature Reserve

The Mere The Heronry The day started at the lakeside café where we saw heron nests on the video screens and when one parent stood up there were two checks and two eggs yet to hatch. An excellent sight with coffee and cake to accompany it. Then a walk around the mere with highlights of a Wren singing, Sand Martins, Nuthatches, Chiffchaffs, Treecreepers, Great Crested Grebes and a Goldeneye.

After an excellent lunch at the Red Lion we went the mile or so down the road to the Wood Lane reserve for our second fix of the day.
