------------------------------------------

The chess group met for the second time on Wednesday 11th October. We went over the way the pieces moved on the board and went on to play our first game. I explained square notation and chess openings and the importance of controlling the centre squares and developing key pieces.

---------------------------

The chess group held its first meeting on 9 August. First lessons were board layout and notation which denotes files and ranks. We also covered the names of the 64 squares and how each piece moves on the chess board. Notation allows people to follow books on chess and on line chess games.

Do you want to learn and play chess?

You can learn the moves of each chess piece and once you get the hang of the game we can have chess games at home, on line and even competitions.

Come and see me at the main meeting or give me a ring.
