|CG Latest Scams||from Gwent Police and from our members|
The aim is to improve members' knowledge of computers and associated digital equipment from beginners to advanced by utilising the existing skill base of Chepstow U3A members. However, we may bringing in external experts where necessary, organise external short courses where appropriate, or run workshops on specific topics. We could also organise one to one sessions at the request of individual members.

|CG TPS and MPS||How to reduce 'Cold Calls' to your landline and mobile phones and reduce the amount of junk mail you receive.|
|What3Words||For Smart phones or Tablets connected to the Internet. This is a simple way to talk about location. The world (yes the whole world) had been divided into 3 metre squares and each square has been assigned 3 totally random and meaningless words. If you download the App to your device it will tell you where you are currently located so, if you were in an emergency situation you would tell the emergency services these three words and they would know where you where to the nearest 3 square metres. Download the App onto your device. Vry useful if you re off the beaten track. It is now being recommended by Gwent Police so will probably be used more by the emergency services.|
|CCleaner||Mainly for PCs and Laptops (I think), free download (use the Home Version), recommended and used by a member. It claims to frees up space, clear online tracks and helps you manage your machine so it runs faster. After you have downloaded it you run the 'Health Check'. The only I had was that it removed all the User ID's that I had saved that came up automatically on some applications so I had to re input them so I stopped using it.|
|Microsoft Word 2010||From October 13, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, bug fixes, or security fixes for Office 2010 vulnerabilities which may be subsequently reported or discovered. Jackie has investigated cost of updating. Click on Word Upgrade. However, Geoff thinks that you can buy Office 2016 (Home version) for as little as £25. Look on the internet.|
|Broadband Speed Test||Check your Broadband speed. Repeat it for all your devices.|
|Character Map||All the Special Characters - see top right of screen. Open it by tapping the Windows key, type “Character Map” and pressing Enter. Double click on the character you want and it will appear in the big box in the bottom of the screen. Press Copy. In your email or Word document just 'Paste' it in. If you now minimise it, it should go to your Taskbar, right click on it and chose Pin to Taskbar and it is now available whenever you want it. NOTE this works on Desk Top PC with Windows 10 and a Laptop. It may not work on other devices and software but try it and see and let us know.|
|Learn My Way||Free Web Site. Use of keyboard/mouse.touchscreen, different devices, spreadsheets, internet, social media like Instagram and Facebook etc. Maybe a bit basic but a useful introduction? If anyone tries it send me your thoughts.|
|WeTransfer.com||For transferring large amounts of data via email. Very easy to use and they claim up to 2GB.|
