Photographs on u3a Websites

We have received further advice from The Third Age Trust warning of the danger of publishing photographs on our website & in newsletters which are protected by copyright & therefore unavailable to use without permission or licence. Some u3as have inadvertently done so & have received correspondence from an organisation called Licence Compliance Services which basically trawls websites with a view to identifying unauthorised use of imagery & have incurred fines. It is often extremely difficult to ascertain ownership of a photograph so the advice is, if in doubt do not use it. A good website to visit is a non -profit organisation enabling the sharing & use of photographs through free legal tools

The thirteen photographs seen on this page were received from five members. These were viewed by Terry Summers and were judged based on the rules of the competition as follows:

1. Adherence to the given theme (Castles of Wales)
2. Composition
3. Exposure
4. Colour balance
5. Sharpness

In his opinion the best three were, in no particular order:

  • Chepstow Castle by Terry Walters
  • Skenfrith Castle by Ingrid Arntzen
  • Caerphilly Castle by Terry Walters

These three have been forwarded to the Wales Trustee to be entered into the next stage of the Wales competition.

Thanks to Terry, Ingrid, George, Kay and Geoff for making the effort to take part in the competition.
