Ukulele
The Group Leader is Barry Barnett who can be contacted on

This group meets on the basis of 3 full practices in any month followed by a week off for private practice at home. The Group Leader advises the dates of all this. The pattern varies according to the needs of gigs, GL’s holidays etc. The practices are on Thursdays from 10.15 until 12.00 at Cheadle Guild Hall.
There is no waiting list as such but prospective members must contact the GL in advance to discuss membership. New members must be prepared to sing (along with others) and play the uke. This is a performing group and there is an expectation that members, when sufficiently experienced, will support the group when we go out to entertain people.
We play mostly the nylon-stringed wooden ukulele through several members play Formby style banjo ukulele. These latter instruments are used alongside the wooden ukes for some numbers though there is a separate banjo ukulele sub-group. This Banjo Ukulele group meets on the 1st Monday of the month in the Oakley Room of the Guildhall from 7-8.30 pm.
Basic tuition is given to total beginners and in all practices there is ongoing tuition of new chord sequences, strumming patterns etc. Some private help with basic techniques is offered on an ad hoc basis. No-one should be deterred from giving this a try but you must have a willingness to sing a little as this is what the group does. Most of our numbers are popular songs from the 20th century and many are well known by us and our audiences.
