Painting & Sketching
The Painting and Sketching Group meets at 2.00pm on the 4th Monday of each month in the King Edward Centre.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced painter, it is always fun to paint along with others. We have a varied programme with a wide range of topics to suit all abilities.

PLAYING WITH COLOUR
Here are some pictures from sessions where we have been getting to grips with colour mixing and tonal values. The first three pictures are tonal paintings using only one colour. The session on mixing greens was particularly useful, in total, we managed to mix around 20 different greens. Much more interesting than that boring green in your collection! The final three pictures show that you don't need a large stock of colours in your collection (although we are all guilty of this), just the three primaries are all that are necessary!

THE BIG PICTURE
Each student paints a small square portion of a picture which are then put back together to reveal the "big picture"! A challenge in painting what you see.
|The Big Picture|
We tried painting in the style of three famous artists.
Each of our members completed two paintings, a pencil drawing and one in colour. This was a good exercise in showing tone and highlights.
