Chard, Ilminster & District

Welcome to U3A - learn, laugh, live

A welcome from the Chairman!

Although we have only lived in Chard for around 9 years, my wife and I joined u3a right from our first arrival and in retirement it has been an important part of our social and active lives.

If you are an existing member, you do not need to be reminded of the benefits of membership – getting out and about, meeting likeminded people with a variety of interests, helping you with your day to day social and physical wellbeing.

For those of you new to the area, or thinking about joining consider this:

There are nearly 50 different activity groups, ranging from the more cerebral pursuits of considering poetry, books or Life and the Universe amongst others, to the more physically active groups such as table tennis, walking, badminton and the like, catering for all ranges of ability.

In between we have gardening, various board games, play reading, language groups, natural and local history, as well as a choir to stretch your vocal chords, if nothing else.

Finally, if there is nothing here that you particularly fancy, why not set up a group yourself? If you would like to share your interest and knowledge or perhaps glean more knowledge from like minded members, drop us a line and we would be happy to help you try and contact other members and set up a group. It’s easier than you think!!

Details of all these activities and more can be found on this website as can all the information you need to join this local group of the National u3a movement.

If you would like to contact any of the committee members there are links provided.

I hope to meet you all personally over the coming months.

With best wishes

Paul Ebdon
