The next Newsletter will be available via email from 1st August.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT RENEWING
As many of you will be aware, membership renewal time will soon be with us once more. Our U3A has been using Beacon successfully to manage Membership Records, Groups & Venues information, the Meetings Calendar and to send emails to members. We are now ready to take a further step forward and use Beacon for making renewal payments on-line. This way of renewing will be available from 1st February, 2020.

So for the coming year there will be 3 ways of renewing your membership -

  • By cash either at the monthly meeting or given to your group leader.
  • By cheque either at the monthly meeting or given to your group leader. Cheques may also be forwarded to Rev Marion Field, 46 Old Town, Chard, Somerset TA20 2BE, together with your completed membership form. PLEASE ENCLOSE A STAMPED ADDRESSED ENVELOPE for the return of a membership card. Cheques for membership should be made payable to Chard, Ilminster & District U3A.
  • On-line using the Beacon Renewal Payments Link. This method is available during the renewal window from 1st February to 1st June. Click here to the Members portal to renew your membership. Payment may be made using a debit or credit card so have them handy. Also if you have your own PayPal account then payment may be made using that. It is a straightforward process but if necessary help is available at How to renew your membership online.

Our website now includes a Membership page which contains a few rules about joining and help on how to join and renew.

HOW MUCH FOR RENEWAL

The 2020 U3A membership renewal will remain at £10 as agreed at the last AGM. This amount is not discounted. However at the next AGM it is proposed to increase the amount back to probably £14 for 2021 renewals.

A WELCOME FROM OUR VICE CHAIRMAN

Welcome to the web site of Chard, Ilminster and District U3A. I am so glad you found us!

I hope you will browse through and find out more about our local branch of this institution. There are branches throughout this country and in several overseas countries. The U3A aims to provide opportunities for those who are retired or no longer in regular employment to pursue and share skills, interests, knowledge and hobbies with other like minded people. We are here to enjoy ourselves as we learn, laugh and live together.

Our active and friendly group offers a wide variety of educational, creative and leisure activities. Please go to the tab marked GROUPS for all the details of our existing groups, and when they meet, as well as the latest developments. Each local U3A has groups which reflect the variety of interests of their members. If there is something you would like to learn more about or pursue and it is not listed, please talk to us and we will see if a new group can be started. Some groups meet in member's homes and some in local halls.

Chard, Ilminster & District U3A was formed in 1995. In addition to the smaller interest group meetings we have monthly general meetings where we usually have a guest speaker and everyone has a chance to find out what is going on in the wider U3A including holidays, theatre visits, outings and special offers to our members. We have a jigsaw exchange stall as well. These monthly meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at the Guildhall in Chard from 2 to 4pm. The Guildhall is located on Fore Street opposite the Phoenix Hotel.

For more information use the CONTACT tab to send us an email, or telephone the Membership Secretary, Marion Field, telephone 68984. You can also download a membership application form from the link on the RHS of this page. This form has been updated to accommodate changes to the Data Protection Act (DPA) which came out in May 2018. All new members are required to complete and sign the form.

I look forward to welcoming you.

Marion Field

Vice Chairman
