Who we are
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE STRIVE FOR
We are a group who share our skills and knowledge, solve problems and learn how to improve our gardens. We do that by gaining inspiration from each other and local experts and through visits to gardens, hands-on sessions and talks.
Communication is via email so if you don’t have an email address please buddy up with others who you know who do use email. Information will also be announced at our monthly meetings and posted on our U3A webpage.
The group has an annual meeting, usually in October/November, when all matters of the group are reviewed and accounts are presented.
We are keen to develop an interesting and useful log of group information and shared knowledge. Let Fiona know if you’d like to help with this.
IN THE WINTER
Generally, October to April meetings are held on 3rd Monday of the month, 2-4 pm. Doors open at 1.45pm and everyone is asked to help with setting up and packing away chairs and tables, and teas /washing up. We ask for a small donation to cover the cost of the room hire and teas and coffee.
IN THE SUMMER
Generally, during May to September, on the 3rd Monday of the month, a variety of visits are offered – each one will have its own arrangements. Some of these will be by coach, others with car-sharing but, where possible, we try to offer members the option to bring their own lunch, but not all venues allow this.
All trips will be notified at our meetings, on our U3A webpage and via email (so make sure your email address is up to date). Places are on a first come, first served basis and closing dates for all bookings will be adhered to.
Priority will be given to Garden group members, but if there are remaining places, U3A members who are not members of the garden group will be welcome to join us.
THE FINE PRINT
Photographs from time to time will be taken for U3A newsletter etc. Please keep out of the way if you don’t want to be included!
To comply with U3A insurance and to manage the finances, the following arrangements have been agreed:
Everyone attending a visit must be a U3A member.
To book your place on a trip, payment in full must be received by the due date..
This is non-refundable.
Your place on the trip is only confirmed once payment is received or banked and cleared.
THE FINANCE BIT
Payment for trips can either be by direct transfer to Carlisle U3A Events or by cheque.
We do not accept cash.
You must check with the organiser that there is a place available for you and they will confirm it once we have a confirmed payment. The easiest way to pay is to make a direct transfer to:
University of the Third Age U3A Events
Sort code: 40-16-22

Reference: Garden/where? (Make sure you put the trip name in the reference)
If you prefer to pay by Cheque then cheques should be made payable to:

Gail can be contacted on: 0748 327 6330 or via email on email@example.com
Gail will then confirm the cleared funds with the organiser and they will confirm your place.
Please note: If you are not able to attend after you have paid for a place, whatever the reason, it is your responsibility to find another person who can take your place. The cost is non-refundable. Please make sure you inform the organisers.
The group will endeavour to offer your place to another person, but this cannot be guaranteed.
IF A CATASTROPHE HAPPENS
Should a trip not be viable for any reason, members will be informed as soon as possible. The group will aim to offer an alternative visit, at a similar cost. Refunds will be offered in these circumstances.
