Group Members

Please be sure to answer emails sent to you from your group liaison. Even if you are not attending a group meeting please let the liaison know. It's usual that a majority of members do not seem to be responding to emails. If you belong to a group please try to be involved, it's very easy to reply to an email with a "thank you", "I'm not going to be there" or "I don't want to belong to the group anymore".

Please advise your group liaison as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a pre-arranged group meeting.

Please also note that you will not be allowed to take friends, family or grandchildren along to our Group meetings.

Groups are the lifeblood of all U3A's and should be the main reason why a U3A exists.

The Self-help Learning Principle

Members form interest groups covering as wide a range of topics and activities as they desire; by the members, for the members.
No qualifications are sought or offered. Learning is for its own sake, with enjoyment being the prime motive, not qualifications or awards.
There is no distinction between the learners and the teachers; they are all U3A members.

STARTING A NEW INTEREST GROUP

Any member can start an Interest Group. If you would like to start or suggest a new group, contact our Groups' Coordinator, Irene Traer. Please include your name and description of your suggested group. A sheet will be put out at the following monthly meeting for interested members to add their name to or you can contact Irene who will add your name to the list. Once there are enough names on a list Irene will help organise a meeting with a view to electing a Group Liaison and getting the group started.

The same would apply if there is a group you would like to join that is full. It's always possible for you to start a second or third group.

There are many subjects that our u3a does not have a Group for at present and could be started with some thought from you, our membership. If you are interested in a subject and you are happy to take the register of members attending a meeting, then you are ready to become a Group Liaison and we would love to hear from you. You don't need to teach the Group or even know the subject. ALL members of a Group should research the subject, share knowledge, and learn from each other. We encourage the formation of interest Groups where everyone shares the load. i.e. It is not necessary for one person to organise every meeting of the Group. It can be shared between the members and Groups can have Joint Liaisons.
