Welcome to Cannock Chase u3a
Welcome to the website for Cannock Chase u3a, for members from the towns of Cannock, Rugeley and nearby villages surrounding Cannock Chase. The Chase is an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) in South Staffordshire. Our base is in one of these villages, Slitting Mill, where most of our meetings are held in the village hall, Victory Hall (postcode is WS15 2UW), although some might be held at rooms in libraries, fire stations, community centres, pubs or other venues, as well as other locations outdoors.
All our regular venues are wheelchair-accessible, although we cannot guarantee accessibility at other venues over which we have no control.
We have monthly meetings with speakers, and a chance to chat over refreshments. A PA system is in use at these meetings to ensure that speakers are audible to all.
We also have social events, such as our Autumn Tea Party, Christmas Lunch, Christmas Party, Spring Social, Platinum Jubilee Garden Party, and others from time to time throughout the year (see photos below).
Occasionally there are specialist workshops too; for example we have had a series of workshops on Creative Writing, and our u3a initiated the national U3A Robot Challenge, followed up subsequently by Gloucester u3a.
For further details of all these meetings, outings and other events, see the Events page. As well as the meetings and social events mentioned above, these have included outings to venues such as Houses of Parliament, BBC Salford Quays, Jodrell Bank, Bletchley Park, Amazon warehouse, theatres, various gardens, river boat cruises, etc., as follows:
We have a number of Interest Groups which meet regularly. These are organised by the U3A members themselves, and any member whose interest is not catered for is encouraged to start a new group. For further details of our current groups, see Group Leaflet and Groups schedule, and also the Groups page.
You can also get an idea of our activities by viewing the photos on the Photos page, as well as from our latest CCu3a Newsletter. We are also part of the national u3a movement, and you can find out how this is doing from the latest National U3A Friends Newsletter and Newsletter Express.
A full list of planned events can be found on the Events page.
See also our Facebook entry (this needs to open in a new window). For those who are already on Facebook, you can search for and join the Cannock Chase U3A group. Membership of this group will keep you informed of the latest updates to meetings and groups wherever possible.
You are welcome to come along and visit us at our monthly meeting for an entrance fee of £2. If you decide to join, there is a £10 membership fee for the year (£5 or associate members).
Otherwise, to find out more click on the other tabs on this website. If you see our exhibition stand in community centres, fairs or in supermarket foyers, come along and have a chat.
