Cannock Chase

History

History
The History group takes on projects to examine the historical background of local features. For example, recently we have looked at activities on Cannock Chase during the 1st World War and one of the "lost treasures" of Staffordshire, Wolseley Hall. Some time ago we were given some old photographs and written work about the Rising Brook which runs from Hednesford through the Rising Brook area to join the River Trent beyond Rugeley; we intend to investigate further the iron works of the valley - the first blast furnace was built about 1561.

The History group meets monthly in the Victory Hall, Slitting Mill.
Group Leader: Sheila Simpson (get in touch via 01889 582837 or electronically via our Contact page).
