Calligraphy if two Latin words for Beautiful Writing, however joining the group won’t improve your normal handwriting! It is more like seeing writing as a pattern, an Art Form on the page, which communicates something of the beauty or the character of the written word.
After a two year break the group is starting again on Thursday mornings at Hollybrook on Station Road from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Several of those who were part of the group before are keen to re-join, so these folk will meet on alternate Thursdays and carry on from where they left off.
At the Open Day another eight people signed up to start from scratch, they too will meet at Hollybrook from 10 – 12 on the other two Thursdays in the month. The experienced Calligraphers will meet for the first time on September 8th and the novice group will muster for the first time on September 15th. People have to provide their own materials, paper, pencil, ruler, rubber, pen holder, lettering nibs and ink. Coffee and biscuits are a feature of the morning!
