Poetry Wednesday
Each month we come together in The George at 10.30am to read and talk about poems on a particular theme or particular poets which we have chosen in advance. Sometimes we celebrate the anniversary of a particular poem (Eliot’s The Waste Land) or poet (Larkin, Helen Dunmore); sometimes we arrange a group read of a long poem (Goblin Market, The Ancient Mariner); or we may read poems which have a personal significance. The range is great, from anon/Medieval to contemporary and anything in between from the English-speaking world. It can be heartrending or heartwarming or intellectually stimulating, usually extending our understanding of poetic form and always an enriching experience.
